We will be using two different procedures to extract your DNA from cheek cells. The first procedure will allow you to collect and isolate a sample that you can visualize and keep. the second procedure will extract a sample which will be sent to Cold Spring harbor DNA Lab for sequencing of mitochondrial DNA.
This video shows how to extract your own DNA! The procedure we will follow will be slightly different (ie. we will use Gatorade as our saline solution), but the general protocol is the same.
